Ever since the release of the Game Browser and the possibility of custom game modes, fans of Overwatch have come up with some interesting (and sometimes disturbing game modes). This kind of creativity is to be expected from a community of over 30 million active players between PC and Xbox and Playstation consoles. These customizable games have reached a new level though on PC where Reddit user ItsDeltin has created a zombie experience for Overwatch.
Based off the popular Halo game mode of infection, this custom game mode senses when a player on the survivor’s team has died and switches the player over to the zombie team to continue hunting down other players. This is done through the use of a “bot” and allows for the balance of power between teams to slowly shift from one team to the other as players are infected and become zombies. Survivors play as the builder Torbjorn and are limited to the use of his turret and rivet gun to combat the zombies. This means that Torb will not be able to protect himself with armor or utilize his hammer to upgrade the turret to level 2. Meanwhile the zombies are portrayed as Reinhardt to further symbolize the idea of a zombie through the use of Reinhardt’s hammer. Looking at the official trailer (which I will embed below) it would appear that all players are granted 200 health each and have access to health packs still. As fun as this game mode sounds, it may be difficult to play it unless you are on PC and have an extreme level of patience, the game mode has a rather large queue of players and growing due to hitting the front page of Reddit with the initial post having 17 thousand upvotes at the time of writing.
If you would like to check out the original Reddit post you can do so by clicking HERE, or if you want to wait and try out the game mode for yourself then you can go to http://www.abyxa.net/zombie to sign up. At this time Blizzard has not released a statement about the use of a bot in game, most likely because it is not being used to cheat or exploit the game at all, but they are most likely aware of the situation, so we will see what happens. If we are lucky, maybe this could be a new arcade game mode? Let us know your thoughts on the subject in the comments below, or on Facebook!
