Nothing can stand against those monster tires!

The June Update for Final Fantasy 15 dropped today, and brought some improvements to the Regalia along with it. This 8.65 GB update gives us compatibility for Episode Prompto (Releases on June 27th), as well as new music for the DLC package. But the coolest feature to come with this update is definitely the upgrade for the Regalia, the Regalia Type-D.

Type-D outfits the princes beautiful vehicle with 4 big monster truck tires, which allow the car to go off road. This means, while driving manually, you have the option to go off the beaten path and drive across open fields, deserts, or anywhere that doesn’t have a lot of big rocks. The Type-D also has a jump option which can be useful for clearing obstacles or getting the car unstuck (which happens a lot apparently.) One of the coolest options to come with this though is the ability to run down monsters. You won’t be able to one shot anything, but with skilled driving, it is entirely possible to drive circles around monsters and eventually wear them down to win the fight. What’s interesting is that the team does not take damage while in the Regalia, so this mechanic could be used to cheese some hunts of particularly tough enemies. Although keep an eye on the durability meter of your car, because it will be reduced every time you ram a monster. This can be fixed by Cindy in Hammerhead, but it will cost you a pretty Gil. The Type-D modification can be made by talking to Cindy for free, just like any other modifications to the car. It’s amazing what one girl in short shorts with a wrench car do.
