At Blizzcon 2016, in an interview with the wbsite Kotaku Geoff Goodman, a lead designer for Overwatch, stated “There is an LGBT character in the game…. We have comics and a bunch of other media to show this.” It was hinted that while they didn’t want to be “heavy handed” with the characters sexuality, they would be revealing which hero was a member of the LGBT community. That character has been revealed in the latest Overwatch Comic Reflections.

Reflections is the story of Tracer, zipping around trying to find a present on Christmas Eve. Eventually finding a special present thanks to a good Samaritan,  the comic leads us back to Tracer’s apartment, where she finds Emily, a lovely redheaded woman waiting with mugs of hot chocolate. Emily opens the present to find a scarf and, squealing with delight, kisses Tracer. the next scene shows the couple showing up for Christmas dinner with Winston. This comic is an amazingly sweet way to reveal Tracer as a lesbian, and showcases small scenes of most of the Overwatch heroes spending their holiday season.

With a game as big as Overwatch, there are massive fan bases who have been excited to see diversity in the game, as well as the idea of “shipping” characters. Many fans have speculated and pitched ideas of various characters being homosexual, including quite a bit of fan art (some of which is definitely NSFW). So now it will be interesting to see how this comic has changed some peoples perspectives on various characters and their sexual standing.
