The hype for Square Enix’s latest entry in the Final Fantasy series is real. Gamers have eagerly anticipated the games release since it’s announcement in 2012. The official release date has been set for November 28th of 2016, but some retailers didn’t get the memo apparently.

Gamers have taken to social media, announcing that they have received their copies of Final Fantasy XV early, some through the mail, while others were able to pick the game up during the craziness of Black Friday. Various retailers including Target and Best Buy have been (happily) accused of releasing the game early, and the pictures are proof. Some even going so far as to show the display racks of where the game was on sale.

Was this simple oversight on the part of a few retail employees who were distracted by the insanity of the holiday shopping spree? Or perhaps clever marketing by Square Enix?
