Gaming has come a long way hasn’t it? From humble 16 bit graphics, to massively multiplayer online games, the world of video gaming is an ever growing market. But in order to see how something grows, we must look back at its past, which is why, every Thursday, we will be looking back at gaming history, to find out what happened on this day. Last week we discussed Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, the classic fighting game from 1995, but today we are going to jump forward to 2009 where we find the release of the Esports Titan, League of Legends.


This MOBA (Massive Online Battle Arena) came to be due to the famous DOTA mod of Warcraft: 3, and was generally well received upon release. Since then, the game has expanded greatly, drawing in millions of gamers to this day, as well as leading the way in the Esports arena. With competitions all over the world, and massive amounts of prize money being won. Games like LoL are part of the reason that video gaming has become so mainstream in today’s day and age. And it all started Today in gaming History.
